The DynaVox is a communication device which utilizes dynamic displays. With this system, the graphics, letters, or words, that the user sees can be erased from the display and quickly replaced with a new set of choices. This adds much flexibility for the user because no overlays have to be changed if one wishes to access additional vocabulary. The process is similar to a menu driven computer system. The DynaVox even has an optional feature which makes some of the graphics become animated to show the action a particular word denotes. The DynaVox accepts input from its touch screen which can hold up to 60 key areas, and which has adjustable hold and release times. This device also accepts input from joysticks or switches with visual or auditory scanning. The DynaVox uses DECtalk synthesized speech, and comes with sample screens to demonstrate methods of programming the device. The DynaVox 2 and 2c are updated models that are similar in use to the orginal DynaVox, but are smaller and more portable.
