This screen reading software adapts computers so that the user can hear what keys are being pressed and what is happening on the screen. JAWS interprets what is on the monitor and sends it to a speech synthesizer for output. A sound such as the letter "s" is synthesized as the key is pressed. The device can be used by individuals who are visually impaired and cannot clearly read the screen, but know the topography of a keyboard. JAWS will work with many speech synthesizers.
